Creeping Towards Dictatorship

In 1993, I was at a prophecy conference in Tampa, Florida, listening to an endless parade of speakers talking about how the newly elected Bill Clinton was going to enslave America. The speakers had a mountain of evidence, but they lacked one critical factor. They failed to include a practical scheme the Clinton people might have to overcome our Constitutional rights.

I've heard about secret plans for tyranny since I was a youngster. Some people spend all their lives warning about the Illuminati, Bilderbergs and the Trilateralists. These One World organizations may influence policy makers, but they don't have any power to dictate it. If they did, we would have all been enslaved decades ago.

For about 20 years I've been refuting this inaccuracy, saying that the conspiracy theorists are full of hot air. I believe there is now an immediate threat of autocratic rule taking over our nation. I've always believed that there was a general effort to erode our civil rights. Up until now it has been a very gradual process. In the past few years, the attacks by the enemy have become continuous.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is to focus on a personality, where we are endlessly trying to play pin-the- tail-on-the-Antichrist. The problem with looking for the next Adolf Hitler is that he can be anyone and come from anywhere. Our true focus should be on the process. As time goes by, I'm seeing less difference between the Democrats and Republicans. I blame the George W. Bush administration for moving America in the wrong direction just about as much as I do the current Obama Presidency.

I point to Bush's 'Patriot Act' as one of the clearest indications that we are creeping towards dictatorship. The Act dramatically reduced restrictions on law enforcement agencies' ability to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial, and other records. Rather than being allowed to eventually expire, the 'Patriot Act' continues to evolve.

James Madison, while a United States Congressman, said, "If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." Madison’s warning might explain why every time another Arab terrorist tries to cause mayhem, another chunk of my civil rights is taken away.

The key reason I think the danger of tyranny is so great is the level of apathy one finds today. The huge Health Care bill was passed in May, and two months later you hardly hear anything about it. Just this past week, a bill was introduced to give President Obama an internet kill switch. Few people bother to ask if such attempted Federal control over the Internet is a threat to free speech.

Milton Mayer wrote the book, "They Thought They Were Free." It was based on interviews he had with Germans still living after World War II who had been members of the Nazi Party. In it Mayer detailed how easy it is for people to live in a dictatorship and not even know it.

"As we know Nazism, it was a naked, total tyranny which degraded its adherents and enslaved its opponents and adherents alike; terrorism and terror in daily life, private and public; brute personal and mob injustice at every level of association. These nine ordinary Germans [who lived in Nazi Germany] knew it otherwise."

"An autocracy? [they say] Yes, of course . . . But a tyranny, as you Americans use the term? Nonsense."

German Church leader Martin Niemöller found out the hard way why we should never trust leaders with our freedom. After he was arrested in 1937, his former cell mate, Leo Stein, related his story to The National Jewish Monthly. Stein reports that having asked Niemöller why he ever supported the Nazi Party, Niemöller replied:

"I find myself wondering about that too. I wonder about it as much as I regret it. Still, it is true that Hitler betrayed me. I had an audience with him, as a representative of the Protestant Church, shortly before he became Chancellor, in 1932. Hitler promised me on his word of honor, to protect the Church, and not to issue any anti-Church laws. He also agreed not to allow pogroms against the Jews, assuring me as follows: ‘There will be restrictions against the Jews, but there will be no ghettos, no pogroms, in Germany.’"
(a b Stein, Leo (May 1941). "NIEMOELLER speaks! The National Jewish Monthly. pp. 284–5, 301–2.)

I am greatly concerned about how our nation's weak financial health could affect our civil liberties. If we should slip into a depression, the one-world folks will have a free hand to take scissors to the constitution.

I'd rather be raptured from a free nation, but I know we shouldn’t be too hopeful about the world state as we approach the door step of the tribulation hour. All we can do is contend for liberty right to the very end.

Troubled Hearts In Troublous Times

Frightening news and expressions of worries stream minute by minute into my email In Box, threatening to reach an unmanageable level. But the flow, unlike the oil gushing unstoppably into the Gulf of Mexico, is welcome. The messages are rich in information about the convulsions making up these troublous times. --Times that almost certainly presage the Second Advent of Christ.

For example, a dear friend of the RR site is extremely concerned based upon a report she received from a ministry. The report reads, in part, as follows:

"A well-placed source in California told [a ministry I've omitted] that the California Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) has been briefed by its counterpart agencies in the Gulf coast states that there are plans to conduct a mass evacuation of millions of Gulf coast residents due to the catastrophic environmental and public health effects of the BP oil disaster...

The Gulf states’ emergency planners stressed to their California counterparts that they are dealing with a disaster of unprecedented proportions and that contingency plans are being constantly updated and revised on ways to deal with the transformation of the Gulf of Mexico into a deadly “toxic soup” of oil and Corexit 9500 oil dispersants and the atmosphere into a dangerous mixture of hydrocarbon gases.

CEMA was briefed on the impending mass evacuation, since California would be expected to absorb a large number of evacuees from the Gulf states. CEMA officials did not say how the state of California, which is virtually bankrupt, would pay for the influx of hundreds of thousands, and perhaps greater, numbers of evacuees from the Gulf coastal region..."

(I omit the source because its credibility is in question, in my view.)

The point is that it is but one of an incredible number of such reports appearing in my In Box from every direction. God's people are becoming increasingly troubled by the fearful things purported to be on the cusp of shattering their lives.

When one attempts to pin down the reporting entity as being from a source or sources with official credentials with which to present the supposed pending catastrophes, one finds little, if any, substantiation that the fountainhead of information has credibility.

One claim is that there is a gargantuan methane bubble building that will erupt and immediately cause all vessels in the Gulf near the site to instantly sink. The erupting gas will then send a tsunami of unfathomable height cascading as far inland as 200-300 miles.

This dire warning is made even more frightening by the reports of the evacuations and relocations the reporters of these matters say government will demand. At last, the crisis will have arrived that will give government the excuse to move people into the feared FEMA gulags warned about by the conspiracy theorists over recent years.

On another front in the email deluge of fearful news, the methane-like economic bubble continues to grow. This is a 100% verifiable catastrophe on the brink of exploding upon this nation and the world. Todd and I have discussed this growing monster many times, and conclude that the only reason the U.S. and the world aren't in the darkest depression imaginable is due to the staying Hand of God. By all accounting principles, the bubble should have exploded long ago.

The G-20 nation leaders have just, in effect, told the president of the United States that they will not follow his lead in adding more stimulus funding to try to avert the inevitable economic implosion if spending isn't brought under control. Much of Europe has sown the seeds of socialistic insanity for decades, and now is reaping the destructive whirlwind.

Still Mr. Obama insists we can spend our way out of the terrible situation. This he insists upon, despite the reality that every economic expert of late calls such profligate spending "unsustainable". People who send the emails are understandably in distress over what looks to be apocalyptic things to come.

Many emails I receive include articles on the Israeli-Iranian nuclear confrontation nightmare in the making. This, too, is a legitimate reason for worry, and from that worry comes the inflow of reports, many of which I sense, however, are based upon arm-chair surmising, rather than hands-on, on-the-scene reporting accuracy.

One "news source" in particular has earned my skepticism over the years. Time after time this source --which I won't name here-- has reported things that were made to sound like Armageddon-level events about to explode. Each time the mainstream media --for whom I have little regard, so far as unbiased news is concerned-- proved to be accurate, and the source to which I refer, totally inaccurate. Thus, I very cautiously scrutinize whatever comes from that quarter.

Such is the case in the current reports from this questionable source --those reports of the third U.S. carrier group maneuvering in the waters near Iran.

The reports say that the USS Nassau (LHA-4) Amphibious Ready Group 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, charged with supporting the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet area of operations, is cruising around the Babb al-Mandeb Straits where the Gulf of Aden flows into the Red Sea.

The USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group consisting of twelve warships is reported to be cruising in the Arabian Sea. The Dwight D. Eisenhower strike group is said to be cruising farther west in the Arabian Sea.

This source of some concern to me --so far as its credibility is in question-- adds the strong intimation that these U.S. Naval vessels are loaded to the brim with Marines and other troops. They are, I sense we are expected to infer, just awaiting orders to take on the Iranian ground forces in a preemptive action.

The reports have it that Israel is in the mix with some naval vessels of their own, engendering fear that an imminent major crisis is in prospect.

All of this is the grist of growing anxiety for those who email us at an ever-increasing rate. The emails are much appreciated, and I encourage the senders to continue. These help us to stay on top of the rapidly changing conditions of these end times.

I'm not pooh-poohing any of these or any other areas of concern. Perhaps that oil disaster will explode into a greater catastrophe. Maybe the global economic implosion will take place in terms of near-time. Possibly the current build-up in the waters around Iran will result in Middle East war.

What I wish for those who name the Name of Christ to consider, however, is that Jesus made a very specific statement about just such a time as surrounds God's people today.

FOX News show host Sean Hannity uses the Lord's exhortation in each and every of his nightly programs --although I don't know whether he has a clue about its powerful meaning.

"Let not your heart be troubled," Hannity says, I guess to assuage anxiety over the many snippets of bad news they discuss on his program.

Jesus was most definitely telling His followers --Christians-- that we are to take heart, no matter how bad things look at the time of His coming again. His Comforting Words should embolden every believer.

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." (Jn 14: 1-3)

He said further; after giving an overview of the fearful signs that would come upon the world in birth-pang fashion just before He Reaches down to snatch His people up into the Clouds of Glory: "when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." (Lk 21: 28)

We certainly are seeing these things begin to come to pass. Let not your heart be troubled.
