Go Tell Everyone

By Sean Gooding

Matthew chapter 4:18-22

As He was walking along the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. “Follow Me,” He told them, “and I will make you fish for people!”

Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and He called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.

We are moving ever closer to that day when we meet the Lord “face to face.”For those that are getting older the time gets shorter and shorter every year as to how long before we meet our Maker so to speak.

Are you ready to meet the Lord? Have you humbled yourself and asked Him to save you and forgive your sin? He will, Romans 10:13 promises that those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

For the young, time and aging seems so far away. But either by death or by rapture the truth is that we are one year closer to meeting the Lord. Jesus has done all the work and He will hold us accountable for what we have done with His salvation.Youthfulness will not be an excuse for ignoring the wonderful gift and/or the responsibilities that come with it.

Today we get back into chapter 4, and we will look at a simple request from the Lord and the responses of the men He called and then consider how we have responded.

What are you doing with Jesus? Is He you King?Is He in charge of your Life?Is He the one who directs your Life? Is He your God?Not just one of your gods, is He your only God?Today will you serve Him and give Him 100 percent of your commitment? He gave 100 percent for you.

Follow Me! Verses 18-22

Jesus begins His earthly ministry; these men had encountered Him before and knew of Him. They had seen Him do things and in particular Jesus had revealed some of His power to Peter and his fishing partners in Luke 5:1-11.

There He gives Peter a great catch of fish only to call him to leave it and come ‘catch men’. Jesus calls two sets of brothers to come and “Follow Him.” Peter and Andrew as well as James and John left all that they had here on earth and followed Jesus.

They left their way of life and followed Him. Don’t be surprised if God calls you to leave all that you have worked for in a company or business or sport so that you can follow Him.He wants to know that He is your first and only God, and that you are willing to obey no matter the cost.

For too many of us the cost of following Jesus is too much, we would rather continue in our temporary endeavors making a kingdom that is only fading away or that we have to die and leave to someone else.We get the idea that the world cannot go on without us and we forget that there are millions upon millions of acres of graves filled with people who thought the same way.

Yet here we are without them, moving along. The Lord’s churches are the same way; the work of the Lord is not dependent upon men living forever, our God is eternal. He is the one who never slumbers nor sleeps.

Psalm 121:1-5

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand.”

Our job, our calling is to surrender to the Lord.Come follow Him, put all aside and allow Him to lead you.Allow Him to take you wherever He desires for you to go. Whatever God has for you is more than what you have now.The investment He will make in you, by you and with you will be eternal, the fruit of which you will be able to enjoy for eternity.Come follow the Lord;

Matthew 6:19-21

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

What is the command? Verse 19

“Go to people!Tell people about Jesus!Make them aware of the salvation that they have waiting for them. That is our job, our calling.”

Ezekiel 33:6-8:

“But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.

Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me.

When I say to the wicked, O wicked man, you will surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand.’”

We are called to warn the people that there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun and that the choice is theirs to make. Jesus came to save sinners and to call them to repentance. Our job is the same; we call sinners to repentance and offer them the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ.Go tell somebody what Jesus has done for them.

Open your heart and mind and the Holy Spirit will point out people to talk to or better yet He will bring people to talk to you.But we need to be followers of Jesus, ready to tell others what great a salvation we have in Jesus. Are you ready?
