“And He was also saying to the crowds, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way. You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?’” (Luke 12:54-56).
For those of you who haven’t read The Harbinger by Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, I can’t recommend the book more highly. One of the main thrusts of the book, without giving too much away, is how God brings judgment on nations that disobey His precepts, even to the exact locations where His name was once exalted. America, as it turned out was consecrated to the Lord on a piece of ground that may just surprise you. Later on in our history, judgment was brought to that same piece of land. And being someone who wanted to verify the facts before I got overly excited, I did independent research on every assertion made in the book, and found the truths in it most astonishing. Many people would laugh at the facts mentioned in the book as mere coincidence, and wild speculation…
I believe as we are headed into this election cycle (and I am writing this before the election), I believe that God has tried to send a very clear message to us here in the U.S. I believe He has shaken us in a very eye opening way (to those of us who have eyes to see and ears to hear, Matthew 13:14-15). For instance, who could forget the earthquake in Virginia that put a crack in the Washington monument? That monument was erected with an inscription on the top: “Laus Deo,” or “Praise be to God.” This was meant to symbolize that as the sun rose over our nation, the first point of light would hit the highest point in the Capital, and that would be giving God the glory from the first light of day on. Oh, how times have changed. Don’t be shocked if repair crews somehow remove the inscription.
This summer brought a major drought to the nation’s breadbasket, and as if food prices didn’t need more reasons to soar, it seems that every week there is a new, salmonella recall. Our administration’s defiance of God’s provision and promise to Israel by trying to force the Jewish state to give up more land and half of the city of Jerusalem (Zechariah 12:2), while ignoring the very real threat posed by Iran, puts us in more peril than our politicians realize.
The two most startling “harbingers’ this fall have been the total debacle at our consulate in Libya and the “super storm,” Hurricane Sandy. In Libya, I believe the truth will come out that an order for our military to stand down” came directly from the White House which allowed our ambassador to be dragged kicking and screaming out of the embassy (I wonder if those bloody hand streaks on the wall are his) while brave men like, Ty Woods and Glen Doherty tried in vain to rescue him. Can you imagine had George Bush been president during this most egregious affair?
Finally, there is Hurricane Sandy. The president poses for a photo-op with the governor and then hops on his plane to campaign, and in the meantime the Northeast is starting to remind people of a cold-weather Katrina. I feel that God is trying to show the church that America needs a change in direction─fast. I am not all for voting a Mormon into office (see Galatians 1:8), but we must move quickly to avoid disaster. If we fail to read the tea leaves, see the harbingers, or hear with discernment the Word of God, or preach it clearly from our pulpits, our way of life as Christians will change dramatically, as we have already seen over the last several years.
Seaside Heights New Jersey, where MTV filmed the notorious Jersey Shore show, and Snooki and all her pals shamelessly practiced debauchery for all the world to see, and were turned into stars because of it, has been destroyed by Sandy. Some may laugh it off as coincidence (2 Peter 3:3-4). Some may rightly see it as a harbinger. Either way, we must pray for the victims of Hurricane Sandy and for our nation like never before…
