There is yet another new television program coming our way that deals with the paranormal. It’s a television pilot that hopes to get picked up as a series. The show is called, Proof, and it stars Jennifer Beals, who was recently in the Showtime series, The L Word, concerning the lives of a group of lesbian women. The pilot is executive-produced by Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), wife of actor Kevin Bacon.
The show apparently focuses on Dr. Kathryn Russo (played by Beals), who is an outstanding surgeon that begins investigating paranormal occurrences such as: resurrections, out-of-body experiences and hauntings. Her character is struggling with the death of her teenage son, and trying to salvage a strained relationship with her daughter. Apparently the death of her son is what sparks the interest in the supernatural.
I wasn’t able to find more details about the show, but it would be my guess that at some point she will try to use a Ouija board or a medium to contact and communicate with her son. I would also guess that she will communicate with other “spirits” throughout the show, especially if it’s picked up as a series. And with the strong fascination that society has today in all things paranormal, and the fact that the show has some high-profile names attached to it and probably a decent budget, I’m guessing it will be picked up for further episodes.
There’s always been a fascination by the public to some degree for things concerning the supernatural or the paranormal, but it is increasing at an exponential rate in what I believe are the Last Days. Whether it’s vampires with the Twilight movies, or zombies with the hit series, The Walking Dead, the world just can’t seem to get enough of the paranormal. There is a constant, and growing, bombardment through books, television, movies, video games, etc. And the popularity of those who “speak to the dead” (aka, demonic entities posing as the deceased) is also growing. It’s all a direct result of kicking God and His Word out of our lives.
Our schools, our government, our homes.
It’s stunning to me that what is happening in our country and our society today is even a surprise to anyone, especially any Christian. No one should be shocked at the increased interest in all things dark. This country, the world for that matter, has made it abundantly clear that it has no interest in God, so He is pulling back. Yes, there is still a remnant, ant there always will be, but the majority has made their desire clear. God is not welcome. And that sentiment grows stronger with each passing day.
We have to continue as Christians to be a godly witness and pray for those around us each day. Family, friends, coworkers. And I personally believe that we need to prepare ourselves for a growth in the supernatural. I firmly believe, as we get closer to the Rapture and the Tribulation, that the thin veil that separates our reality from the supernatural realm is getting thinner each day.
Remember, Ephesians 6:12: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The verses following Ephesians 6:12, tell us to put on the whole armor of God. The storm clouds are brewing. There are dark days ahead. Let’s hold each other up in prayer!
