I can only think about just so many things at any given time; and right now things are on overload! Everything is totally saturated with too much information to even try to sort out, and we are constantly being barraged with ugly news.
The global politics are out of control. The global economy is out of control. The global weather is out of control. Natural disasters are out of control. Global wars are out of control.
But, life rolls on.
I will tell you right up front that I do not write about politics—I write about God.
I know that many are concerned about our upcoming elections. The entire world is watching what will happen in the United States this November. But, we don’t need to fret ourselves to death over who will win our elections or of anything else, either. I certainly don’t.
You see, I know Him— the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. His Word tells me that He is God, the Helper of Those Who Seek Him:
Psalm 121
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
Even though current events seem to be spiraling totally out of control, we need to remember that God is in total control of everything that happens. Everything. That includes the everyday stuff, the ugly news, the wild weather, natural disasters, wars, and yes—even the political storms around the world. Nothing happens unless He allows it.
Only He knows the plans He has made, when and how situations will play out. He gives us hope, though, through His Holy and Living Word. He tells us this in Daniel 2:21:
“And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.”
This is not to say that I don’t see all the chaos happening every day. This is not to say that I never get stressed by situations. It IS simply to say that I do know who is ultimately in control, and nothing happens, ever, that takes God by surprise. He raises people into positions of power, and He removes people from positions of power. He gives authority, and He takes authority away.
So, what does all of this mean in this crazy world of 2016? It simply means that God will take care of us. But we must seek Him. We must pray and keep our hearts and minds open to Him. We must believe.
Acts 16:31 tells us: “So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.’”
So, our help is from the Lord, our protection is from the Lord, and our eternal salvation is from the Lord. AND, He is always in control! What more could we want or need?
Don’t be overwhelmed by the state of the world. It is just temporary. Eternity waits. Be cheerful through all of your personal trials and troubles. Pray constantly, and give thanks always!
