“Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those that believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1:20-25).
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:5-6).
When I was a college student in the 1980’s, where all we had to worry about was whose trigger finger would press the button and shoot missiles into the air, effectively wiping out all life as we knew it, I knew that scene wouldn’t happen because the LORD decreed a different conclusion to the history of this world, namely the Second Coming of Christ. I figured that if that event were to happen, then the issue of final exams and courtship would not be too high on my list of concerns.
There were talking heads then just as there are now who prophesied that the earth was going to freeze, or that the ozone layer would soon disappear – that in a ten-year time (1990), the oceans would be devoid of life.
They told us we needed to listen to government officials, social experts, and well-informed celebrities who advocated universal health care; pass laws limiting the possession of weapons; accuse the NRA of the Columbine murders; accuse talk radio of the Oklahoma City bombing; the public approval and excusing of outright sexual deviancy in the White House, and the need for a two-state solution for the problem of Israel and the Palestinians (who were given the opportunity to have Israeli citizenship); gays in the military; and other issues that caused me to roll my eyes and inform my dear wife that the world was going stir-fried crazy – and this was all about twenty to thirty years ago.
It seemed that the media had a love affair with Bill and Hillary and that all was well in the world. I did a lot of praying, asking the LORD for mercy, grace, and the courage to endure what I perceived as the smoldering embers of downright godlessness consuming this nation.
For about a minute on January 20, 2001, I breathed a momentary sigh of relief with the arrival of George W. Bush on the scene. Maybe the adults would now be in charge. After September 11th of that year, the nation backed him, and there was the minutest hope that in spite of what was a horrible tragedy, it could be used by the LORD to wake up this country out of its spiritual lethargy and indifference to holiness.
I was the interim pastor of a country church outside of Baton Rouge when these events took place, and the church was full the Sunday after the Towers and the Pentagon were struck. The sense of shock was still fresh, and there were a few honest souls who were looking for peace and an answer that they couldn’t find while watching the pundits on the news channels. I preached an evangelistic message on the uncertainty of life and the need to be at peace with the Lord Jesus. I also said that, while I welcomed and appreciated those who came, I asked how many of them would continue to attend a few weeks after the shock wore off. I wasn’t in the least bit surprised that within two weeks the church was half-empty.
The event that was touted as a sure means of a national wake-up call to repentance soon met with an increasing dislike for President Bush’s leadership and the decision to go into Iraq for what was to be a swift mission of liberation and the removal of Saddam Hussein, who, while a despot, did not organize the attack on America.
Not long after this decision, the anti-war activists started protesting and making accusations against the armed forces, and singing groups started saying that they were ashamed of being Americans whenever they performed. Some celebrities championed the fight and the bravery of the troops and the greatness of this nation. It wasn’t long, however, that the question of whether invading Iraq was even necessary or if there was a sound objective and strategy for victory. More protests and ridicule of the administration grew.
I did a lot of praying for the President, but I also began to question the wisdom of these actions, especially as the casualties grew. My wife worked for the New Orleans V.A. and started seeing an increase in applications for disability benefits and financial compensation for varied forms of injuries and PTSD.
As if the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan weren’t enough to make the nightly news, in August of 2005 Hurricane Katrina swept through the Gulf Coast, and we saw pictures of absolute animalistic behavior by those who foolishly stayed in the city and suffered horrid consequences, with looting and acts of violence against one another.
My family and I had fled a day before the hurricane hit land, and we witnessed all of this godless behavior reported each day by the news outlets from the safety of the home of my mother-in-law in West Oklahoma. It seemed that, with this calamity, I saw a demonstration of God’s care amidst the cries of incompetence and anger towards government officials who thought they had all the answers.
It was the actions of Christian- and other religious organizations that stepped up and demonstrated to the hurting that there were souls dedicated to the work of God who volunteered to set up shelters, feed the refugees, buy clothes and food for the homeless, and rescued and reunited pets with their owners. They performed the overwhelming task of providing examples to the world that there were people who placed the love and compassion of God above the cries and screams of the devotees of secularism and worship of government handouts and entitlement. The nation’s increasing godless behavior was countermanded by the hand of a sovereign God who still had His hand upon His people for the moment.
As time progressed, I witnessed the acceptance by the media and most of the nation of a man who promised “a fundamental transformation of America.” I was not caught up in the near worship of this man, Barack Obama, or his philosophy of life.
When he was elected President, it wasn’t long before his toadies in education and the assorted governments soon had our children singing his praises and repeating verses like, “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight, and then reverently speaking his name – and it sure wasn’t referring to our Lord Jesus, who was seen as contemptable in this man’s sight as well as his administration. The United States had kicked the true God out of the picture and put this pseudo-messiah on the national throne.
One entertainer referred to this President as “our lord and savior.” As a reward for loyalty, this President opened up an office where you could call in and report someone who didn’t approve of the President’s policies. I figured that all he had to do now was to help build the Temple in Jerusalem and declare himself God. A lot of people tended to think that way, except that this President hated Israel and its Prime Minister and made demands that Israel return to its pre-1967 borders, a move that most of the other nations supported.
What I witnessed was a rapid expansion of government control and a sure conviction that God’s judgment was not too far off. An increasing atmosphere of hatred towards God and those who followed Him was triggered and has accelerated ever since. The President’s administrative policy was to be extended after he left office with the certainty that his hand-picked nominee was sure to win in a landslide in November 2016. Everything seemed to be in place for the moment.
Hillary’s election was certain according to the talking heads of a compliant and supportive media. Magazines on the night of the election had already printed stories with the title “Madam President.” Jokes and contempt were poured on Donald Trump, who made gaffes and statements that so-called political “experts” said were certain to finish him off and throw the Republicans into a tailspin that they would never be able to correct.
It seemed that the Beast system was a certainty and that those of us who stood firm for the Lord Jesus would certainly see the process of mass persecution and arrests, if not more gruesome consequences. Certainly no one in the mainstream media ever bothered to report that the brother of Hillary’s campaign manager allegedly practiced witchcraft and satanic rituals that emphasized a practice called “spirit cooking.” The probability was that a lot of Hillary’s compatriots did the same thing, although in secret.
As a believer in Jesus Christ, I was certain that I was witnessing the end of the nation by a handful of demonically insane, godless, globalist, blatantly evil people who would welcome the inevitable arrival of the Antichrist. However, when Donald Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, I felt I heard the inner voice of the LORD telling me, “That’s him.” I believed at that point that Mr. Trump would win, despite my friends and family telling me I was off my rocker to suggest such a thing. The discouragement and despair felt by many brethren led to an outpouring of prayer and intercession for the nation like we had never witnessed before.
My prayer during this time was that the LORD would bring utter confusion and chaos upon His enemies and bring disaster upon their plans. The leftists of this nation, some college students who believed that Hillary would confirm their expectations of entitlement and assurance of “safe spaces,” and others who believed that she deserved to be the first woman President simply because she believed it was hers for the asking, and couldn’t wait for what was to be a sure thing.
Even with this blatant ego trip on her part, I saw God quietly at work amidst the national insanity. She started making gaffes in speeches, referred to Trump supporters as dumb, backwards, lacking in intelligence, showed outward contempt for the average American, sounded downright hateful, and championed horrid practices such as abortion procedures up to the time of the birth, which did not settle well with a growing number of citizens who saw her as an uncaring, self-centered globalist who would lead the nation into ruin.
Mr. Trump emphasized issues like job creation, toughness in trade negotiations, reopening of closed factories, less regulation, and the open declaration that we need to honor and worship God, and not the government. He welcomed Christians into his fold and always seemed to request prayer from believers and those who practiced religious standards. His rallies drew tens of thousands and earned the contempt and ridicule of those in the “beltway” who believed that they knew better than the ordinary citizen on how to run the country and for us to simply be quiet and conform.
When Donald Trump won the Presidency, it turned the New World Order’s plans on its head. It seemed that the sovereign Lord had the last word on the path of this country for the moment.
Now, the devil cannot stand it when his plans are thwarted by the sovereign hand of God, and I believe to this day that it was the intercessory prayers of God’s remnant that moved Him to put Trump in office.
Needless to say, the devil and his band of useful idiots did not take kindly to this blow to their plans. From the day that Trump won, there has been a non-stop demonic flow of hatred and vile thrown at him by politicians in both parties; late-night talk shows; media pundits; practicing witches and sorcerers who regularly try to put curses on him; leftist hate groups who call for violence in the streets; a growing number of liberal evangelicals who call for his impeachment and removal from office (I’ve noticed in articles and reports that the new group of Southern Baptist Convention leaders, for example, are allegedly a part of this cry); and the never-ending parade of lawyers and supposed victims of Trump’s advances at some point in the past.
The blind hatred and murderous spirit in this nation against him and his supporters has grown, and there are some news anchors calling for the destruction of Trump and everyone who aligns with him. If this is not the demonically insane spirit of murder and chaos, then what is?
Now the blatant immoral insanity has chosen as its next victim the lives and character of children, whom the elites hope to turn into little anarchists and activists who will support causes and people who advocate for what would be considered sheer evil in a more ethical society.
The American Library Association, at their last reported convention, has approved to develop a campaign to allow gatherings of drag queens to read stories and interact with children, exposing them to the idea that deviant behavior is alright and that the idea of relations with such persons should be considered an act of “love.”
Parents are now considering sex-change operations on children in order for them to conform to their idea of what their child should be and is expected to behave. Lawsuits are now being brought against parents who want to keep their child identified as a boy or girl against the desires of another parent who wants to make their child the sex they want despite obvious body structures.
There are cases of children dressing up in drag and performing in gay bars, an incident that not too long ago would have been classified as child abuse and endangerment, but now is celebrated as a way of life that dare not be criticized or condemned by individuals, especially Christians, of whom now the world sees as an irritant that needs to be eradicated.
The devilish, insane actions of the ever-growing godless society now see Christians as Public Enemy Number 1. More and more people are embracing atheism and pagan rituals and talk openly of ridding the world of the followers of Jesus Christ by any means necessary.
I knew in my younger days as a believer in Jesus Christ that these events would come about, but I’m not surprised at how rapidly they infiltrated the American mindset and lifestyle. I am growing more convinced as I witness what can only be described as global insanity that the LORD’s time to gather His elect is going to come a lot sooner than anyone expects.
I have never been a “date-setter,” but I sometimes wonder if we’ve got no more than five to ten years left before the LORD puts everything into place that signals the end of the devil’s work and the willing operatives who want to put his plans into action. Their demonically driven insane vision will be cast, along with them, into an eternal lake of fire, including all who never came to Christ or acknowledged the need for redemption by the LORD.
I emphasized these points in a sermon that I preached on July 21 at a country church in southwest Arkansas, and I will continue to promote the need of salvation only through Jesus Christ in spite of what the world thinks or demands otherwise. I fear no man, and I will continue to call out sinful and perverse behavior in the world as well as confront the worldly behavior and philosophy of mainline denominations who have sold out their witness for Christ for the sake of “tolerance” that is expected of us but not of the world.
Insanity is just that, an act or statement by people or organizations that embrace the evil and godless thoughts of modern civilization and expect something good to come out of it. There’s no way to sugarcoat or excuse sin – no matter how we try to disguise it, explain it away, or conveniently sweep it under the ideological rug.
The one safe and sane place in this warped conglomeration of ungodly horrors is in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has promised to return to receive His own and to declare that He and He alone will have the last say on all matters. As His elect, we have the assurance of total and complete victory. We are on the winning side, and we have His Word as proof. We’re the sane ones – and when all is said and done – all the glory, honor, and praise goes to Him.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus. We’re ready to go.
