Three and a half years ago, the seemingly impossible happened with Donald Trump defeating Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of these United States. Evangelical Christians came out, en masse, to vote for a man many felt was morally bankrupt because the only alternative, Hillary Clinton, was to those same many, evil incarnate. While neither of those beliefs is necessarily arguable, the truth is, Clinton would have continued the purposeful dissolution of this once great Nation, to mirror the bankrupt socialism of Europe and Canada, which was begun, taking the nation to the very edge of destruction, by the eight dark years of the Obama administration.
Since that time, many have taken it upon themselves to absolve, in their own minds, Donald Trump of any and all His sins because He has been a powerful advocate for Christ-ians and Israel; that is true; no American President has ever come close to being as pro-Israel and pro-Christianity as Donald Trump. The loyalty he engenders seems to stem from the fact that his loyalty to Christ-ians, Israel and God comes from his heart and not from a calculating quest for votes.
Democrats and ‘leftist Christians’ complain that his ‘followers’ are hypocritically giving him a pass regarding everything he has ever done, saying, ‘that was before he was President… we’re all sinners… judge not… don’t cast the first stone, he’s a new Christian, etc.’
Until just a few weeks ago, because of the foolishness of the ‘left,’ it appeared he would win reelection in a landslide… that was then. Now, with the Corona virus and with the press and the opposition Left doing everything in their power to blame the economy’s fall on Trump, his reelection is beginning to look a bit doubtful and that the voters and the ‘vote counters’ might just hand the reins of power back to those who will once again do their best to destroy everything that has been built up over the past 3 1/2 years, and especially over the past 250 years.
How are we to think about all these things? How are we to act? How are we to respond?
Sometimes it seems some of us are more concerned with the makeup of the three branches of the U.S. Govern-ment than we are with whose names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Sometimes it seems some of us would prefer to see certain entertainers and politicians get what they deserve, rather than being interested in the state of their Eternal destination: Heaven or Hell.
Some of us seem to be more interested in convincing our friends and coworkers of the rightness of our politics than of the truth of our Salvation and that this same Salvation could be theirs in Christ.
Some of us are very quick to share our politics but very reluctant to share the Gospel.
Let’s be honest: would I, would we rather see Donald Trump in Heaven or in Hell; would we rather see Hillary Clinton in Heaven or in Hell?
The truth is… the politics of America is not what should most occupy our hearts and minds because we are not, first and foremost, citizens of America.
We are, right now, citizens of Heaven and eventually of the New Heavens and the New Earth with specially prepared homes in New Jerusalem.
This entire World, America included, is all part of the kingdom of darkness. America is not the New Israel. America is not God’s ‘Shining City on a Hill.’ The only nation which is a special possession of God is Israel, and Israel is the only nation to which God has given special, eternal, national promises. Israel is the only nation God has promised to cause to be the ‘Head of the nations.’
America is not mentioned in the Bible, and eventually America will fall.
Two thousand years ago, God sent His Son into the kingdom of darkness, defeating the prince of darkness and bringing His Kingdom of Light.
When Jesus Christ accomplished His mission of conquering death, sin and darkness, He returned to His throne in Heaven to await His Father’s command to return to Earth.
Until then, He has commissioned us, His Bride, His Body and adopted children, to be His occupying force. We are citizens of Heaven but we are His occupying representatives on Earth until He returns, in the air, to remove us, in the Rapture, and to then complete His final seven years of dealing with Israel. After that seven years, called The Tribulation, He will return to Earth and set up His Kingdom, in Jerusalem, from which He will rule and reign for 1,000 years.
We are here to occupy His conquered territory until He returns for us.
When Jesus was in the home of Mary, Martha and Lazarus, Martha was scurrying around doing all the little things that she felt must be done in order to rightly entertain a special guest. Mary, on the other hand, chose to sit at Jesus’ feet to just listen to His Words and learn of Him. He said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41).
Did you catch that? The thing which will not be taken from us is our growth in Jesus Christ as He and His Word are used in our lives to fashion and mold us, day by day, more and more, into the image and likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We can become worried about so many things… especially the state of the World and this Nation.
Consider how World diplomacy works. The leaders of various nations send ambassadors to many other countries to represent their national interests. These ambassadors are busy delivering messages back and forth between their own leaders back home, and the leaders of the nations to which they’ve been sent.
Ambassadors are not involved in the politics of any nation but their own. We are not to be concerned with the politics of any nation except our own but we should be very involved with the politics of our Nation which is Heaven; we are the Heavenly people of God. “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself” (Php 3:20)
He is the One Who will subdue all things to Himself. We are not here to subdue anything unto His rule. We are here to deliver the diplomatic message He has instructed us to give to all to whom He directs us. The message He has sent us to deliver is always centered on the Gospel and for making disciples. “He said to them [us], ‘Go into all the world and preach the Gospel…’” (Mk 16:15).
We cannot tell people about the true King, Who will return for His Own at any moment, if our attention and passion is swallowed up in the politics of the nation to which we’ve been sent.
What is our passion? There is no end of those who will tell us of their ‘passion.’ ‘My passion is this or that or some other thing.’ Our hearts, our minds, our passions should be set and centered on the King Who has sent us and on the home to which He will one day take us. “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the Earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Col 3:1).
So the question remains, ‘Who am I and why am I here?’
Who am I not? I am not just some little cog in a wheel, sitting in the dark wondering about how the World seems to be falling down around me.
I am a child of God. I am a prince of The Most High. I have been sent into enemy territory which has been conquered but its inhabitants don’t yet know it. I have been sent in to help accomplish my King’s will. I have in my hand and mind His message, offered to all who will hear; it is His message of forgiveness of sin and Eternal Life to any who will come to Him in humble repentance.
The World offers its message of fear and hopelessness but I have been entrusted with my King’s message of hope and Eternal Life.
I am being prepared now, through the trials the King brings into my life, to someday enter into the wonderful life and ministry He has already prepared for me, in His Eternal Kingdom, into which I shall one day soon enter in.
Will you join me in this, our quest? We are children of The Most High. He eye is on us and His Hand guides us while His Power protects and defends us daily. Come with me; let us boldly go deep into enemy territory, taking light to those in darkness, who are dying, going out into an eternity of darkness and torment.
All of us have been affected by the upheaval caused by this Corona Virus. Some of us have been furloughed or laid off while others have lost their jobs altogether. Our hope is not in our jobs or our careers; our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ and His Righteousness. He is our hope; He is our provider; He is the One Who loves and cares for each of us, more than we could ever imagine. We are praying for you and we trust that you are praying for us; that each of us, all of us, that our financial needs will be met and provided by His loving gracious care.
May God bless you, and us, richly and abundantly, far above all we could ever ask or think.
