Matthew 5:13-16 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. A few years ago, someone asked me what being ‘Salt and Light’ meant in the Bible. They either had never heard that phrase before or had never learned that as a ‘concept’ in the Bible, so I tried to explain that it meant that we are to be Salt, ‘a type of preservative,’ and Light, ‘the Light of Christ and the Gospel’ to the World.
Today, I will go a little further with a perfect example from a recent experience I had at a supposed ‘Christian Biker Rally.’ For one, my Husband and I just started riding in the past couple of years and mainly just ride by ourselves for a type of ‘therapy,’ if you will. If we do ride with others, it is usually with a group within the church that rides together for fellowship. This particular time, we were asked to ride with a Deacon and his Wife from our church to a ‘Christian Biker Rally’ nearly 2 hours away. We agreed, but what ensued while we were there turned out to be a ‘let down,’ to put it mildly.
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
The Deacon and his Wife were very pleasant, sweet, and fun to be around, but the disappointment was in perceiving this Bike Rally as anything but Christian. Just seeing all of the Occult and Witchcraft symbols literally on everything and everywhere we looked said it all. At first glance, all seemed hopeful because initial impressions were friendly Bikers greeting us, someone preaching over the loudspeaker, and others who were standing around praying for each other.
Once we got a closer look, though, things ‘got real.’ The plethora of ‘Occult and Witchcraft mixed with Christian symbols’ were on everything from t-shirts to music CDs to jewelry to home decor, wood carvings, crafts, and the like! Even inside the Rec Center, there was a podium used for preaching, but they either ‘knowingly or unknowingly’ had a tree symbol on it with its roots exposed underground, which is an overt pagan symbol for the ‘as above so below’ mantra, which is a mockery to God.
Ephesians 5:11 “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
There was even a ‘pain relief’ booth which had creams and lotions with ‘Hemp Oil’ as one of its ingredients. I could not help but think to myself, “This is what they call a Christian Rally?” In case one may not have noticed, CBD (a Cannabidiol chemical combined with THC also known as Marijuana or Hemp) products have been heavily pushed all over the country, out of nowhere in recent months, and it is not by accident. Hemp, CBD, THC, Marijuana, Weed and all other ‘Hallucinogenic Drugs’ are what the Bible calls ‘Sorcery and Pharmakeia’… need I say more?!

Throughout the festival, there was a ‘Christian Heavy Metal’ band blaring their music on stage. What makes this an ‘oxymoron’ is in the fact that it sounded just like the mainstream Heavy Metal Satanic music of the World, just only ‘infused with Christian sounding lyrics’ so as to pass as benign. My question is, “How is mixing darkness with light glorifying to God?” This should not surprise us because we know that the whole world lies in the power of wickedness!
1 John 5:19 “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”
The best part of the event was the car show, but even then, some of them had ‘cuss words’ proudly plastered across the windshield or on the backs of the Classics. It is just disheartening to mingle with people who are supposed to be of ‘like minds’ walking around with horoscopes, pagan/witchcraft symbols, or cuss words on their t-shirts. Even ‘Christian’ vendors saying ‘God bless you’ to customers while they’re standing there selling rings and jewelry with skulls, grim reapers, flames of fire, weird crosses, and all sorts of morbid and occultic symbolisms on them!
Do not just take my word for it; do the research for yourself. Look up ‘Witchcraft and Wiccan’ symbols, and you will be surprised at how ingrained these symbols are in our culture and society! Even at the corporate, media, and mainstream level; not to mention the Christian bookstores, Christian music and movie labels, and even within the church! It is everywhere, and it is overwhelming, to say the least!
Ephesians 5:8 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the LORD: walk as children of light.”
The ‘Christian Fish’ symbol is not Christian; the Holy Spirit Dove taking a ‘nosedive’ is not Christian; crosses shaped other than a normal cross are not Christian. Look this stuff up for yourself! One will not have to dig deep; by using Godly discernment and by ‘scratching the surface’ through wise research, you will learn and find out so much! Bottom line, pray for ‘wisdom and discernment,’ brothers and sisters, because we need it now more than ever!
Once again, to be Salt and Light to a Lost and Dying World, we have to be different! Since we are ‘called out,’ we are to be ‘separate’ from the ways of this World! We cannot be a Witness for Christ if we look, act, talk, and live like those who are Lost! They need to see a difference and a change in us; they need to see more of Jesus because they already see a lot of Satan and his ilk on a daily basis! We should not even remotely want to resemble the enemy of our souls, the enemy of our LORD, and the destroyer of mankind in any way, shape, or form!
Psalm 139:21 “Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?”

The passage clearly states that the difference between the Christian and the world must be preserved; therefore, any choice on our part that blurs the distinction between us and the rest of the world is a step in the wrong direction. This can happen either through a choice to accept the ways of the world for the sake of comfort or convenience or to contravene the law of obedience to Christ.
It seems, then, that the role of the Christian as salt and light in the world may be hindered or prevented through any choice to compromise or settle for that which is more convenient or comfortable, rather than that which is truly best and pleasing to the Lord. Moreover, the status of salt and light is something that follows naturally from the Christian’s humble obedience to the commandments of Christ. It is when we depart from the Spirit-led lifestyle of genuine discipleship that the distinctions between ourselves and the rest of the world become blurred and our testimony is hindered.
