EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS
Nearly 500,000 woke up with no power after Christmas Eve Storm Harold battered US east coast after causing blizzards in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. A quarter of those homes alone were in New York, with New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania also battered by strong winds and heavy rain. Much of the northeast was under a wind advisory on Friday with Boston expected to experience hurricane-strength gusts of up to 75mph. The National Weather Service said the heavy rain could change to snow and warned of flash floods in the region.

Severe storms produce massive sandstorm and damaging hail in central Argentina on Dec 18. Widespread power outages and property damage were reported.
As of this writing, Storm Bella is set to slam all of England and Wales on Dec 26 with gales and torrential rain.
EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERSE PLACES
Antarctica hit by 30,000 earthquakes in 3 months, registered in the Bransfield Strait, which is now expanding 15 cm (6 inches) per year from the Antarctic Peninsula, nearly 20 times faster than before. Several tectonic plates and microplates meet in this area, leading to frequent rumbling, but the past three months have been unusual.

Kilauea volcano erupts on Hawaii’s Big Island, residents urged indoors. The Kilauea volcano erupted Dec 20, followed by an earthquake at the volcano’s flank. Residents were urged to stay indoors as steam clouded the sky and ash fell. On Dec 17, seismometers detected a notable increase in occurrence and duration of long-period seismic signals beneath the summit, attributed to magmatic activity. Whereas this type of seismicity was observed on average once every few weeks following the 2018 eruption, rates have increased to over a dozen in the past several days. This is the most activity seen at the volcano since 2018 when a string of earthquakes and explosive eruptions over several months forced evacuations, with hundreds of homes destroyed in lava flows.

US Embassy Comes Under Rocket Attack In Baghdad, Iraq. On Dec 21 at least three rockets landed in the Green Zone, targeting the US Embassy. The enemy rockets and mortars, often fired without sophisticated targeting systems (or essentially fired “blindly”), often hit nearby civilian residences which sit just outside the Green Zone, as happened last Sunday. There are reports of several apartment buildings struck by inbound projectiles. The heathen are doing Iran’s bidding.
Threat from Iran Against Israel Increasing. Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi said, “We are hearing more and more threats against Israel coming from Iran. If Iran and its partners… attack the State of Israel, they will pay a heavy price.”
IDF strikes Gaza in response to earlier rocket attacks. The IDF struck targets belonging to Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip late Friday night in response to rockets fired from Gaza into Israeli territory earlier in the night. During the IDF operation, a rocket weapon production site was targeted, in addition to underground infrastructure and a Hamas military post.
Hundreds of Civilians Killed’ in Ethiopia Tigray Conflict. “We have received allegations concerning violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law, including artillery strikes on populated areas, deliberate targeting of civilians, extrajudicial killings and widespread looting,” High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet told journalists.

China’s testing ‘biologically enhanced’ super soldiers on their own troops. John Ratcliffe, U.S. Director of National Intelligence, said, “U.S. intelligence shows that China has even conducted human testing on members of the People’s Liberation Army in hope of developing soldiers with biologically enhanced capabilities. There are no ethical boundaries to Beijing’s pursuit of power.”
When They Shall Say ‘Peace and Safety, Then Sudden Destruction…’

There will be no real peace on Earth until Jesus returns. And Israel giving up land for peace has never and will never work.

Election prevention bill fails, Israel headed to elections on March 23. A bill proposed to avoid Knesset dispersal and the fourth elections over the last two years failed to pass Monday, sealing Israel’s fate. The 23rd Knesset dissolved automatically Tuesday night. Shortly after the vote, Likud MK Michal Shir announced she would join Gideon Sa’ar’s New Hope party, after voting against the bill.

New ‘Woke’ Denomination Is A Warning Sign to Christians. Last weekend, the formation of a new Methodist denomination was announced. Liberation Methodist Connexion (LMX), as the group will be called, is a socially progressive denomination that will reimage what it means to follow Jesus. But the new denomination reveals nothing close to orthodox Christianity. Fidelity to Scripture or Christian theology is not a priority for the new denomination. As one leader explained, “There are no doctrinal litmus tests” for joining the movement.
Vatican Offers Elimination of Temporal ‘Purgatory’ Punishment for Forgiven Sins for ‘Year of St. Joseph.’ Christian News Network reached out to Leonardo De Chirico, pastor of Breccia di Roma in Italy, leader of the Reformanda Initiative, and vice chairman of the Italian Evangelical Alliance to inquire about the concept that one can seek intercession from a deceased Joseph and the practice of obtaining indulgences. He said, “It is actually forbidden by Scripture to have anything to do with the realm of the dead (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Plus, we have a living and loving intercessor in the Person of Jesus Christ who perfectly hears our prayers (Hebrews 4:15-16) and who is perfectly qualified to be the only mediator between God and us (1 Timothy 2:5). If we don’t know what to pray and how to pray, we have the Holy Spirit who helps us to pray (Romans 8:26).”
He noted that indulgences likewise are not Scriptural as Jesus already took upon Himself the punishment for our sins (Isaiah 53:5,8), and there is therefore no “temporal punishment due to sins” that those who are forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice must pay in the afterlife. “Indulgences are a medieval invention that has nothing to do with Scripture,” De Chirico said. “They stem from a works-based view … whereby we must do something to have our sins [cleansed] from us (e.g. reciting certain prayers, making certain pilgrimages, crossing the holy doors, in the past paying an amount of money to buy them).”
“They derive from a faulty view of the Church, who claims to administer God’s grace by way of opening up the ‘treasury of merits’ earned by the saints and made available by the Roman Church on special occasions,” he outlined. “The forgiveness of our sins is a gift that comes to us by grace alone and it is grounded on the accomplished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has paid the full penalty for our sins (1 John 2:1-2).”
De Chirico, who works to equip Christians with the tools to knowledgeably engage Roman Catholics, expressed his sorrow that the Vatican is leading the masses in false doctrine. “It is a tragedy that the Roman pope, instead of directing people to Christ according to the biblical gospel, teaches them to look for help elsewhere and invites them to pray to someone who cannot hear, let alone act upon those requests,” he said. “I thank God we can go directly to the Father’s throne in the name of the Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the way that Joseph and Mary followed, and every believer should initiate them.”

Why should non-Covid hospitalizations be taking such a sharp fall? We’re heading into flu season which typically sees hospital admissions rise, putting great pressure on hospital capacity even in years with Covid to contend with. Why is this year so different? My guess is that many of these Covid ICU hospitalizations would have occurred anyway given the usual seasonality, but are being logged as Covid hospitalizations this year.
