New York City police officers arrested nine Black Lives Matter protesters in Brooklyn on January 16. NYPD officials warned the crowd they’d be arrested if they continued blocking the road. The large group of BLM gathered to call for firing of an officer who drew his weapon during another protest earlier in the week. The officer reportedly drew his weapon after confrontation by demonstrators for not wearing a mask. Video shows him holding his pistol close and pointed to the ground. He reholsters after assessing the situation and draws what appears to be pepper spray from his duty belt. He later deploys an expandable baton as the crowd becomes more aggressive.
New York’s Governor Cuomo “all of a sudden notices” surging crime in New York City. Crime increased across the country as police departments were defunded or pulled back from duty as animosity against them rose and morale within ranks tanked. A July report showed crime was on the rise in urban areas. Black community leaders asked for NYPD to bring back their Anti-Crime Unit after a spate of shootings left a one-year-old baby dead, among others. Cuomo has apparently now taken notice of the community’s concerns six months later. Too little, too late. They’ve reaping what they’ve sown.

The impeachment charge quickly adopted by majority House Democrats with no witnesses or evidence alleged Trump’s urging that supporters make their voices heard “peacefully” prompted the violence. But an affidavit filed by FBI agent Michael Palian Jr. makes clear the violence was the result of preplanning rather than day-of-the-riot “incitement.” “Trump did not encourage any of the activity that happened,” he said. If further construction of the border wall ends, the U.S. southern border would remain largely open between Texas and Mexico.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued the Biden administration over the “unlawful and perilous” 100-day pause on deportation of illegal immigrants. “Our state defends the largest section of the southern border in the nation.
