(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who might happen to read this and do not have Jesus in their life and are looking for peace and a way to better understand the present-day insanity and senselessness.)
I can’t put a definitive date on when I first started to notice the proliferation of the phrase, “It doesn’t make sense,” from literally every different direction.
Most often, it comes from “conservative people” in interviews, articles, quotes from “news” stories, etc., that portray the dark picture of the state of the world today.
But it is not limited to conservative types. It comes from all points of the compass.
It isn’t like anyone is wrong. In the context of their particular viewpoint, it is quite right.
However, I must point out that worldviews that are compatible with reality fit the conclusions of those who declare this phrase most accurately in almost all cases.
It “doesn’t make sense” in terms of what has typically been normal human conduct over the centuries when the Word of God, Law, Ethics, and Decency were the majority regulators of human perceptions of right and wrong. Therefore, the plumb line of everyday life, not just here in America, but the world over in what was once was able to be cautiously described as “civilized countries.”
The descriptor “civilized” is almost a subjective term based on norms within a particular country, but there is a certain image that comports with what is delineated in the above paragraph, at least in terms of Law, Ethics, and Decency.
These qualities, whether their source is acknowledged or not, have their foundation in the Laws, Precepts, and Requirements for human conduct laid down by the One and Only True God in His Word.
The string that holds the plumb line of these regulators has been purposely broken by evil, and now the world is tilting off its axis, and the resulting chaos does make sense.
Fortunately for humankind, within these guidelines and precepts, there exists qualities that humans would never have thought to include: Grace, Mercy, and Love (as God defines it). These very precepts are the only reason God has been so patient with us.
So, what is it that prompts so many to say, “It doesn’t make sense,” as though it is some mystery that is beyond comprehension?
It is not beyond comprehension to those who seek God’s Truth.
The answer lies in an abused, ignored, and largely mocked and slandered Book. It has been around for centuries, and if harvesting dust had economic value, it would be the single greatest and handiest source of raw material on the planet. This was said facetiously but, unfortunately, appropriately in order to make my point.
Perhaps it is because dusting off this old and inerrant source of Truth causes so many to sneeze and cough that it is avoided like the plague in so many homes (yes, and even churches).
No, it is sin and rejection of the One True God.
“That Bible is just full of myths and fables” the Devil has managed to convince people through “trusted” media sources and pundits of lies.
Let’s go ahead and have a look at this Book and see if it might reveal some answers to the mystery of “it doesn’t make sense.”
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness. For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:18-20).
Have you noticed much in the way of truth lately?
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images of mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles” (Romans 1:21-23).
Have you noticed the accelerating level of things that “don’t make sense” lately?
“Furthermore, since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, He gave them up to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless” (Romans 1:28-31). Emphasis in the above verses added by me.
The phrase “it doesn’t make sense” and its twin, “I don’t understand this,” should be sounding in your mind and heart like a warning claxon at a nuclear power plant when radiation is detected and you are being told to take action to save yourself.
This warning claxon of sensing the Truth in the above verses in Romans is not telling you to save yourself because you can’t save yourself, but the Glory and Power of the God Who can save you are revealed in the Bible that sits unread and ignored by so many.
Those qualities, characteristics, and indeed the very makeup of God Himself are revealed in Jesus Christ, the Son that sacrificed Himself on the Cross of Calvary that you might really be saved.
Saved from what? Saved from the consequences of your sin, the penalty for which He suffered to pay for you and for me.
If we examine ourselves honestly, we can see that we are included in the descriptors in the above verses from the Biblical Book of Romans, at least in part., and that, my fellow human, does make sense.
We do and think evil. It’s as simple as that.
Now to the crux of this article.
I was initially going to include a laundry list of the senseless and utterly ridiculous current events of which I speak, but it is completely unnecessary.
You can’t miss them.
Their proliferation and growing intensity and frequency are proof and solid, reliable validation of the Word of God.
This article is actually full of Hope and Good News, and the foundation of these things is in the True God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God’s Word has foretold the unfolding of these times.
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13).
You can be saved out of the growing evil of these days and live in Hope when that Hope is placed in Christ.
The special message I promised you:
For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life.
You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.
It requires that you come before God on His terms.
And, what are His terms according to His Word?
- Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
- Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
- That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
- To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
- Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross.
- To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.
God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.
- No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
- No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
- Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.
If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.
“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).
There are no answers and no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.
The answers are in the Word of God–The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
