Body, Mind and Spirit, Which Is Which? – Part 1 :: by Don Twobears

Have you ever sat alone and wondered about all that you know and think about; your emotions and feelings, your hopes and dreams and where does all of this takes place? Now if you go and ask someone you know, or even those you don’t know, invariably they will tell you these ideas are in your head—in other words in your brain.

They would go on and dissect your body and tell you that your ideas and thoughts come from your brain and all your feelings come from your heart. As they tell you these things, they will point to the head and then the middle of the chest. Would it surprise you to know that all that they are saying…is wrong?

We do these things all the time, never once asking ourselves if it our analysis is correct. I remember being in elementary school and crossing my hand over my heart and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. We do the same thing when we see our country’s flag. How odd is that? Actually…it is not odd at all.

When we are in school and learning, we sometimes have a headache from learning so much; or we feel our hearts almost explode during the first real kiss. Everything we experience is either in the brain or the heart (except when you feel sick), then you hold your stomach. It makes sense that when you are on your feet a lot, you massage your feet for relief, or it could be your legs.

Would it surprise you, if I said, your back would hurt from sitting too much? You would think it would be your butt that would hurt from sitting, right? Or you could experience cramps in your legs from the lack of water. You can experience upper backaches from years of drinking alcohol.

How odd is it, that when you stub you toe on the coffee table, that you hold your foot when you actually experience pain from within your brain? Yet, it is your toe that really hurts and knows the damage. As I have stated before, how odd is it, that thinking and learning can bring about exhaustion in the body? I thought that it would be in the head. And here is another, when you experience great loss, your heart hurts and your eyes cry tears? Here is something better:

Where in your body does schizophrenia reside? Your head or your heart, or maybe even both? Oh, yeah! That’s psychology, right? But even though it can affect our body it’s not just in the brain; it affects the heart and we can take medicine for that. Yet if you open the skull, no one can find it there and if we open the chest, it’s not in your heart… Now if we ask a professional, they will say it has to do with the synapses within the brain.

If that is true, then why do the medicines fail to cure the problems? I mean, if we have an infection, we take an antibiotic and we’re cured. So what is up with this psychology stuff? I worked for almost fifty years in the medical field, mostly on human hearts. I began in Cardiac Cath., and then in Cardiac Electro-physiology. I have yet to find the area of a heart that contains any feelings or emotions.

Let’s look at a common feature of our lives. We lose a loved family member; he or she dies and what happens to us? We feel such pain and emptiness in our hearts, right? But no one is able to find anything wrong with the chest, so then they tell you it is a manifestation of the brain. Yet nothing wrong can be found inside the skull. So what is actually going on here? Are we all CRAZY?

Oh! There’s another one for you. Crazy! Where does that message come from? Your heart or your brain? Okay, I know what you’re saying now; we have a soul and a spirit where many of these things reside. If that is so, why do we take medication for something that is not part of the body? It comes out as conjecture in science. It is because science does not believe in a soul or spirit. If that is true, then how do we manifest these different things and how is it that the body is able to experience…part of it? Then where is it? And science wants to call me, crazy?

So if you bring this topic up in a conversation among friends, the response by most will be bewilderment at best. If we are willing to accept the idea we have a soul or spirit, then what happens to that soul or spirit when we die? Wow..this mess just keeps getting deeper and deeper! Right? How do we separate fact from fiction; we always need to know the difference, inquiring minds and all that… Let’s see here.

If you talk with an atheist, you will find that not only do they not believe in God, they do not believe we have a soul or a spirit. For them, you take your last breath and “poof”, that’s it, the end. Wow…that puts a real bummer on all that ghost hunting and all… right? So for the atheist, there are no ghosts, no spirits, no afterlife.

Why does this not fly well with the majority of the people of the world? If there IS a soul or spirit in us, as believed by the majority of the world, then the majority believes there is a God. IF the majority of the world believes there is a God, then they must believe God rules everything and that there IS indeed a heaven and a hell. Now if you ask anyone in the world, where they will go when they die…they will say heaven. IF that is the case, no one will be in hell. How crazy is that?

Now if you ask these people of the world to elaborate, they will tell you that the good people go to heaven and the bad people go to hell. If you question them on who is bad, they will say it is someone else, but that they are good people and they will see heaven. It’s always someone else who is bad, but they are never able to point out the bad people. I must presume, Al Capone was a good person because he went to church and gave to the church…right? No?

They will also tell you a bad person can go to church, give money to the church, but they can still be bad people and thus, they will be going to hell. Then, everyone that goes to church is not always good… so how many who are not good are in your church? So that would mean that people that are legally crazy are not good people? How are you able to tell, who is who?

In a nutshell, if someone is sitting next to you in church and he knows all the hymns and says “Amen” a lot, is that good person going to go to heaven? How do you know? How would anyone be able to truly tell the difference? Because…isn’t that a thing with the spirit or soul?

If you say “No” then they are bad people and are headed for hell. And if you say, “Yes,” they are good people and they will see heaven? Is that correct? Is that the defining mark for everyone in the world?  If it is, then I’m confused again. How do we differentiate between good and bad in people, and to what degree?

I mean, where or when do people go from being good…to being bad p, or vise-versa? Is that a physical thing or a spiritual thing? If we are not able to see the spiritual, then how does someone become bad or good? Isn’t there a rule of some sort that defines this for us, that we must look inside ourselves to decide?

Now some will tell you, it is according to who is baptized and who is not. If that is true, then how does dipping someone’s body in water affect our soul or spirit, as to who will be going to heaven or hell? And if that is true, then why are there Christians, Protestants or Catholics, Methodists and Presbyterians, etc., if it is just a matter of good or bad and dipping or sprinkling water on the body?

And if that is the case, is there not a manual available to define all these things, sort of like a list? Oh! There’s the Bible, right? Now my question is this: If the majority of the world do not read a Bible, then are they good or bad? In my mind, there ought to be some sort of mark to show the difference. Is that not correct?

According to what people of the world have told me, they have their own beliefs and that they are going to heaven because of their said beliefs. We have talked about bodies, minds and hearts and how we all experience these things every day, and how we apply the idea that we have a soul or spirit — when there is no evidence to that end. Or…is there evidence?

This is a long discussion, thus we will continue this in the next article. We will be looking further into this strange and sort of weird subject matter of the people of the world. It is an exciting discussion, it is the reason the scientific world does not engage anyone in this discussion. For them it is too complicated!

To be continued…

Here Is Something You Really Need to Know! :: by Don Twobears

The concept now days would seem to be that we must have everything we desire, and that somehow or someway we will live forever. The idea that we do not take into account is that one’s end here, is universal. Would you then think no one spends any time thinking about their end, considering the idea that one day each and every one of us will die?

Because the facts are all around us, we age, we become more fragile and in many cases a disease is in the process of removing us. Are we afraid of our end, our death here on earth, to the point we continually wipe it from our conscious thinking? I must guess the real question is, how long does each one of us have to live here?

2 Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

The verse above must to refer to God Almighty, because HE will never die. You and I on the other hand, are in a different boat all together, we know we will die one day, whether we wish to think about it or not. So what is this big fear of dying all about? Why is it that we will never see any time over 120 years?

We will watch as those close to and older than us expire one day, and we will be forced to care for their passing. Why do we abhor the idea, to such a great extent? Why all the fear? What isthe big idea behind the fear, the lack of breathing another breath, the degradation of our bodies…WHAT? I can understand feeling scared, as to whether or not there is an afterlife.

A life that continues on after we die here on earth, as with each spirit or soul. As of today, there has never been a single person to ever be able to return and explain what all goes on. Jesus Christ is the only One to have ever died and returned to the living! Say what you will, it is still the truth!

I remember as a child I had never considered anything concerning the death of anyone. Then one day my grandma passed away, and in the next few hours I thought about it more and more. It must have been obvious to my mom and dad that I had an issue with it and they asked me if I was having a problem.

I said no, but that really wasn’t true, I just didn’t know what to ask them. In time I became a little more logical about it and in time my parents explained it to me. My problem was my dad; for me this became a real problem. I was close to my dad, although the military kept us apart a lot of the time. For years, I was afraid of his passing, what would I do without him, how would I be able to function?

In time and many years later, my dad died. Yes, I felt really bad, I would miss him terribly but I would be able to continue on, as I do today. Yet before he died, I was petrified at the idea of my dad dying, absolutely mortified. As this took place, I saw that my mom would need help and understanding from me and I needed to be ready to follow through for her.

I still miss my dad a lot. Seven years later, my mom passed away and then it hit me; I was now completely on my own. And yet, I had a family of my own to care and do for and this simply ramped that up for me. To mourn, what is that? Simply a time to cry? I really don’t know.

I do know this: My mom and dad and my wife’s mom and dad and her brother, Tim, were all born-again and I will see them again, one day. That is enough for me! So now, the question becomes, is this the reason so many fear this dying thing here on earth? Are they afraid that it truly is the end for them, in every way?

I believe a lot of the time, it is Hollywood that has infested us with the fear of death to the extent we see today. I also believe that Hollywood is responsible for the idea of beauty being a body-thing, instead of a person’s character and personality.

We have taken this to a point of seeing what we want to see—a physical thing of beauty, that when people age they are no longer worthy of our adoration. And then we begin to look around and use the same attitude of those around us. How shallow! Many abuse and use others as if they are things, rather than people.

It has gotten to the point that there is no other concern in anyone’s life than “ME.” It’s all about what I want, how I feel, what I see or don’t see and that is all there is to it. Everyone else on earth is here to feed ME. And to feed ME everything I could ever want, regardless of how I deal with them.

The phrase I like to use, “It’s all about ME!” Do we need to reread 2 Timothy 3 yet again? Then again, if you are like the person described above, you may find out who you are in 2 Timothy 3. Just remember, no one knows you better than the Lord God; but you know yourself very well.

For a moment, let’s consider something important here. The playing field was very even when we were first born. Babies are simply babies, however precious. The next time the playing field is even again is at death; the gravestone has nothing to do with it. Dead is simply dead, nothing more or less.

Hell is full of people with “good intentions” as well as really “good people.” Again I will state, NO Jesus Christ…NO heaven. And if you are not in heaven, guess where you are?

Let’s get something straight here and now. All children before the age of accountability and all adults that are truly born-again to Jesus Christ will be in heaven. That is the purpose for the Rapture, to remove all of God’s own children from this earth, before HE pours out His wrath. This will include all those who have already died in Jesus Christ.

There will definitely be others left behind and they all will still have a chance for heaven, by believing in Jesus Christ and accepting His free gift of salvation. The thing is this: They will have to die to go to heaven since they missed the Rapture.

Everyone else will then be subjected to their own personal “oops” moment. They will die and when it is time they will face the Great White Throne judgment and then the lake of fire where there will be great “wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

Think on this; wailing beyond your own comprehension… “Gnashing of teeth” means you will be in such pain and suffering you will grind your teeth till they all break! And this will never end. Worse yet…there is NO HOPE…of ever seeing anything else! Eternity is a very LONG time.

You may want to give this a little thought…while you are still here on earth. It means there is still a chance for you.

2 Corinthians 6:2 “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

\This is absolute truth. Give it some serious time my friends, food for thought… Time is of the essence and time is very short! The Rapture of Jesus Christ is close!
