“And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God” (Mark 10:18).
I have received a number of responses to a part of an article I wrote; people complaining that there are still “good people” around.” IF that is the case, why would Jesus Christ state the above verse? This verse along with another states where we as humans are on that ruler:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
It is then evident to me, that many feel they are better than others or that they feel they are more deserving of being called “good” than others. When the very state of this world proves that sentiment to be exactly the opposite. We are all fallen!
We are all human and are subject to sin and we have definitely fallen short of the glory of God. It is true, we are all loved by God, we can be ushered into His hands by giving our lives over to Him…but…let there be no mistake, we are still a “fallen species.” Our only recourse is Jesus Christ!
Am I saying that we do not have good intentions? Quite the opposite, we have many “good intentions.” The problem is that we fail continually and the reason for that failure is our own sin gets in the way. I understand, that makes all of us look like such failures. How many times has humanity started out on a good direction and be sidetracked by problems? History is full of this and even more.
The problem is this: We try and do things using our own methods, beginning with the failure to ask the Lord God for His direction. How do you think so many “religions” have begun and failed at every turn? They endeavor to “do right”…without…the Lord. That’s the first mistake of all, starting anything without the consultation of our Lord and Savior. Has it never occurred to you, that our first problem is our own original sin, by Adam and Eve and has been followed through in each of us?
Our first problem begins with our birth, thinking we are autonomous individuals. When the actual reason for you and me being here is to worship the Lord God Almighty. We were never created to be so individually unique, that would set us apart from God and the idea we are a God. Or have you never read about how Satan deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:1-5: “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
For the record, is what Eve told the serpent (Satan) correct and true? Absolutely NOT! So here we see that Eve…sort of, well, just added a little, you know something extra, nothing too big you know, just a smidgen extra.“Neither shall ye touch it.” Yet the Bible says something different, about what God told Adam:
Genesis 2:15-17: “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Oops!!Don’t cha just hate those!
So was what Eve told the serpent a lie or not? What does the Bible, the Holy Word of God say about adding to or subtracting from His Word?
Deuteronomy 4:2: “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.”
Revelation 22:18-19: “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any manshall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
There it is in black and white and from Gods’ own lips to our ears. Eve was wrong for telling the serpent, “Neither shall ye touch it.” She added to the Word of God and that my friends is a sin, plain and simple. This goes along with someone saying there are “good people” in this world, when Jesus Christ explicitly said, “There is none good but one, that is, God.”
That IS biblical truth! I do not know about you, but that definitely hurts my feelings, but then, I am a human, just like everyone else here on this earth. And as a member of this species called humanity, I am fallen, as everyone else. The difference is, when the Lord God redeems us. Thank you Lord for your love toward me.
If it has not occurred to anyone yet, there is a unique reason we are here? I am here to praise and worship the Lord God for creating me and for redeeming me, because of my sin, with His precious blood. THAT is the reason!
The entire reason for the Bible is to show WHO our Creator is, WHY were created to begin with, WHERE we have fallen short and HOW we can be redeemed. That’s it. And the answer to all of those, IS Jesus Christ. Therefore the entire reason for the Word of God is Jesus Christ!
I will NOT say anything except what the Bible says, PERIOD. We as humans have every opportunity to read the Bible and learn what the Lord God expects of us and then fall in line and be what HE wants us to be, NOT what we want to be. Anything outside of the Word of God, for you and me, in our lives…will be failure. And the Bible is also very exacting about the results of our failure to follow Him: Eternal death!
Thus we can see that there is a difference; we have a choice to make. We can choose to follow Jesus Christ and LIVE for eternity or NOT to follow Jesus Christ and DIE for eternity. And THAT is the name of that tune!
My friends, I am so honored and humbled…to expound the Word of God and I rely completely on Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit to guide me in every word, no more and no less. I want nothing more than to help show the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…in what I write. Praise the Lord for HIS undying love for us!
