The Smell of Rain :: By Geri Ungurean

When I was a little girl, my favorite thing was the smell of the earth and the air after a rain.

I remember the joy of running outside to play and taking in that amazing aroma. Even back then, I was searching for God. I wanted to know who Jesus was.

Whenever I would smell the air after a rain, I would think of God. I would think about Jesus, although bringing up His name at Synagogue was frowned upon. I was asked to never mention Him again by my teacher. That only served to increase my desire to know the truth about Him.

Have you ever noticed that smells can trigger memories? It’s true. Could it be that Jesus was using the ‘smell of rain’ to draw me to Him? I believe He was.

The Aroma of Prayer

What are the prayers of the saints in Revelation 5:8?

From gotquestions.org

The scene in Revelation 5 is John’s vision of heaven’s throne room. When the Lamb had taken the scroll of God’s judgment into His own hand, “the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people” (verse 8). Revelation is the most symbolic book in the Bible, and in this passage, the “prayers of the saints” are symbolized as golden bowls of incense, held by twenty-four elders. Of course, the more symbolic something is, the more its interpretations can vary, but it’s important to understand what these prayers of the saints are—and what they are not.

God established incense as a part of the sacerdotal system (and therefore as symbolism) in Exodus 30:1–10 when Moses was told to build the altar of incense. The prayers of the saints in Revelation 5:8, especially as represented by incense in the context of temple imagery, should be understood to take the role of incense in the temple, which was to offer up a sweet aroma to God and to symbolize prayer. The prayers of the righteous are pleasing to Him. Psalm 141:2 describes this aspect of prayer perfectly: “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141:2).

Prayer is linked to the incense in the temple in other passages as well. When Gabriel appears to Zechariah in the temple and tells him that his prayers have been answered, Gabriel is “standing at the right side of the altar of incense” (Luke 1:11). This happened when “the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense” (verse 10).

There are certainly different types of prayers. Prayers of supplication are the type most people are familiar with because that’s the type where we ask God for help! But there are other types, too, like the prayers of imprecation (Psalm 55:1:15) and prayers of intercession (Luke 23:34). The fact that the “prayers of the saints” in Revelation 5:8 are not identified by type or in detail—and that they are together in an incense bowl—indicates that we should consider them collectively. God considers prayer-at-large as incense—a sweet aroma to Him.

The fact that these are prayers “of the saints” in Revelation 5:8 indicates that God hears the prayers of His people. Psalm 65:2 addresses God as “You who answer prayer.” Our Lord “hears the prayer of the righteous” (Proverbs 15:29), which is another way of saying that He listens to the prayers of the saints. The “saints” in Revelation 5:8 are not an elite class of people who are more holy than the rest; they are not mediators of our prayers (see 1 Timothy 2:5), and they do not ask us to pray to them. The term saint in Scripture implies parity, not hierarchy. We are all one in Christ (Galatians 3:28). The saints are all believers in Jesus, living or dead, saved by grace through faith. The church is “loved by God and called to be saints” (Romans 1:7, ESV), and when we pray, it’s as if a golden bowl of incense is being carried to the very throne of God in heaven.

Who are these prayers of the saints for in Revelation 5:8? Since these prayers are the aggregate of all believers’ prayers through all time, they are about everybody and about everything that is consistent with God’s will. If you pray for somebody’s salvation, that prayer is in the bowl. If you pray for the safety and relief of people after a natural disaster, that prayer is in the bowl. If you pray that God would conform you into the image of Jesus Christ, that prayer is in the bowl. Such prayers are well-pleasing to Him.

Does Revelation 5:8 lend credence to the tradition of praying for the dead? Not at all. The dead have already sealed their fate, for good or for evil (see Luke 16:19–31). There is no post-mortem plan of salvation. Now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). After death, a person faces judgment, not further opportunity (Hebrews 9:27). So, if you pray that God would save or relieve someone who has already died, that prayer would not be in the bowl. Such prayers are futile.

In Revelation 5, God’s plan is near to being accomplished. The judgment of the wicked world is about to commence, and the ultimate redemption of God’s people is about to be realized. The living creatures and elders sing a hymn of praise to the Lamb: “With your blood you purchased for God / persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. / You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, / and they will reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:9–10). The golden vessels full of incense are proffered to God, whose word will stand, whose will is accomplished, and who will pronounce the final “Amen!” to the prayers of the saints. – source

How fascinating it is to me that ‘aromas’ are important to God. Aromas are precious to Him! Our prayers – the prayers of the saints – create an aroma of incense that reaches the nostrils of the God of the Universe – Our Father!

I pray that the next time you venture out after a drenching rain, you will remember this article and that you would be reminded of the importance of Prayer to our God!

May Jesus come soon to gather us away to our real home.

Are you saved?

HOW CAN I BE SAVED?

Israeli-Palestinian War Through a Biblical Lens… :: By Geri Ungurean

“CRUCIFY ISRAEL – GIVE US HAMAS!” “CRUCIFY JESUS – GIVE US BARABBAS!”

“Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”

 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion.”

 “I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.
 You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’”

Now therefore, be wise, O kings;
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,
And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.
Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him” (Psalm 2).

In light of recent international decisions regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state and the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has once again come to the forefront of global attention.

Join IDF Sgt.-Maj. Chaim Malespin as he explores a striking biblical parallel between the current situation and the story of Jesus and Barabbas in Mark 15:6-15.

Watch the video here or read the transcript below.

Choices are being made right now – decisions that affect the very future of our children, our families, our lives, our homes, our countries, the free world. And the recent decision by Spain, Norway, Ireland – I don’t know what other countries – to recognize a Palestinian state after the [Hamas Oct. 7] massacre… on the heels of the ICC kangaroo court, the International Criminal Court arrest warrant against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; … Yoav Gallant, our defense minister; [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar; and I think Mohammed Deif; all together like they’re all the same.

Oh, it’s frustrating. People are making decisions, and they’re looking at this Israeli-Palestinian conflict again and, you know, mob frenzy, mob rule. Sometimes mobs can make the wrong choice and chant the completely erroneously wrong thing. It’s like the ancient Hebrew writer from the Galilee named Mark, chapter 15.

At the feast, Pilate used to release for them one prisoner, whoever they wanted. Among the rebels in prison who had committed murder at the insurrection was a man named Barabbas. The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” for he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priest had delivered him up. But the chief priest stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.

Pilate said to them, “What shall I do with this man they call the king of the Jews?” And they said, “Crucify him.” Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has he done?… Got a good record…” And they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!” So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged, whipped, Yeshua, delivered him to be crucified.

And this is where we are right now as a society, as societies around the world. You know, Israel is not perfect – with a perfect record like Yeshua – but a nation that simply wants to survive, a free, democratic society and live in peace. On the other hand, Hamas and those advocating for a Palestinian state are really seen like Barabbas, a murderous group that… has genocidal intent, that somehow, after the massacre, suddenly is garnering support from crowds all over the world, saying: “Release to us, Barabbas! Release to us Hamas!”

Just as there have been many who justified Barabbas’ actions as a means to liberate – he was an insurrection… He killed someone in the insurrection. So they say, ‘Well, he’s doing the same thing today. Some argue for the legitimacy of a Palestinian state, and they say they’re under oppression, they’re under occupation, which is not true. And they say a Palestinian state will give them a right to self-determine and slogans like Free Palestine from the River to the sea. And it encapsulates this sentiment.

And we see, on the other hand, a nation that just wants to live – for their kids to go to kindergarten, for my son to do his Bar Mitzvah, for our family to survive and thrive and plant our crops and build our house. And so the crowds, even the nations filled with people are shouting, “Crucify Israel, crucify Israel! And on the other hand, the murderous group in the insurrection, they scream, “Free Palestine!” That’s what we’re seeing.

Will the nations of the world side with those who are looked at as murderers, a terror group, essentially, and grant them statehood? I don’t know how – who wants to live next to a terror nation… unless it all changes completely from the top to bottom, A to Z, Aleph to Taff, Alpha to Omega? You know, it’s gotta all change over there. And will they stand with Israel on our quest for peace, for security, to let our people go back there [home] without having a rocket shot on them or a massacre happening to them, to their houses?

Also in the north, on the Lebanon border, where the other terrorist group, Hezbollah, is. So there’s a moral choice between supporting evil or innocence. There’s very little middle ground here. Think about it. I’m sure that at the time of Yeshua, people were saying, “Well, maybe Barabbas was oppressed…. Well, maybe this murderer was just doing it as a means of liberation… Barabbas should be free from the river to the sea.

You know, it seems like there’s a parallel – that that’s kind of what the nations are deciding to do right now. And if you want to be on the side of Hamas murderers and you want to grant them freedom, and you want to grant them an entire state, that is a very dangerous choice for the future.

Or are we on the side of Israel? Yeah. Are we on the side of Israel?

It doesn’t matter if we feel like it’s an anointed country or if it’s a special place in the eyes of God, which it is. But if you don’t even think that, what about just a bunch of people who want to live in peace? And I want to be clear: I’m not saying that Israel is perfect. It’s not perfect, okay? But there is definitely a “Psalms 2” kind of reality here. “Why do the nations rage and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves up and take counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, ‘Let’s burst their bonds apart. Let’s cast away their cords from them.’”

The anointed ones of God are being targeted, singled out, and blamed while being innocent. What are you going to do? Where are you going to stand? What choices will you make? source

The government and the very people of Israel are not perfect. Who is perfect except for Yeshua Himself? Are YOU perfect?

Have decisions been made by the Israeli government that have been wrong? Of course! The decision of Netanyahu to partner with Pfizer so that every Israeli would receive the jab was insane and wrong!

The decisions of giving away God’s land for peace is wrong on so many levels.

First, you do not give away something that God declared in His Holy Word was for HIS people! And to give it away in hopes of attaining ‘peace’ is pure insanity!

Our enemies do not want peace – they want the nation of Israel to be annihilated and remembered no more. And they want the same for every Jew who walks the earth!

How can this be any clearer?

How can it be that after that barbaric slaughter of the Israeli people, the world turned on Israel and marched in major cities across the world?  Oh, they did not march in protest of the slaughter of Jews in Israel. No no! They marched FOR Hamas and continue to march for these animals <sorry, but I’m angry> to this day!!

As the title of this piece says: “Crucify Israel” – “Give us Hamas.”

THIS is what the world is chanting. This is a time in history when I can truly picture ‘THE Antichrist’ making his appearance on the world stage – can you?

HOW CAN I BE SAVED?

COME, YESHUA – COME QUICKLY!
