Trusting God :: By Sean Gooding

Hebrews 11:1-2

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.”

Trusting God is one of those things in our life that will become more and more important as we approach the end of the age. Over the past few weeks, I have had these events happen in my life that challenge me, and I have to deliberately focus on trusting God. I work in a high-stress car sales job where we only get paid by commission. If you don’t sell, you don’t get paid. Over the years, I am always amazed at how God brings people in to buy cars. God has blessed my family and me, and I am forever thankful.

As we approach the end of the age, it is clear from the scriptures that life before the rapture will become difficult. I look around and wonder what will become of us when the power is off, the water does not flow, the grocery stores are no longer stocked, and we have to ‘fend’ for ourselves. Of course, those of us who are saved have this promise from God that we will never be abandoned, and we will always have enough. As one who lives on commission, I get to count cars, count how many are on this check, and count how many for this month, and it can become the focus of my life. I can ride the emotional rollercoaster and allow the number of cars on a check to determine my faith and trust in God.

Thankfully, God has a way of taking me through the hurdles and showing me that while He uses cars to pay my bills, the truth is, it is He who pays the bills. I had to learn that if a car does not get on a paycheck, it is not the end of the world. God has a plan; God can provide in any way He pleases, and I need to trust Him.

In our text, we are told that faith is the ‘substance of things hoped for.’ I hope and trust that God is a God of good character and that He will not lie to me and set me up to fail. The men and women that are mentioned in the chapter had to trust God that He would do what He said and that He could take them to places they had never seen, provide things they could not have done on their own, and protect them when they could not protect themselves. He did all of that and more.

We serve the same God; the same God who calls us to have this kind of faith. Is it perfect? No! Abraham had his doubts, Sarah her doubts, and on we can go. Many had great spiritual failures like Samson, but they were still God’s servants. We are told in this chapter that God was not ashamed of them, even in their failures.

Verse 16: “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

When we trust in God and allow Him to truly take over, it changes everything. But most importantly, God is not ashamed to be associated with us. God then begins to reveal Himself more and more to us. He begins to do things that reveal to us His infinite power in a real and tangible way, and this will become more and more important as we get closer and closer to the end. We can be assured that no matter how bad things get, no matter how sinister our political leadership becomes, and no matter how scarce the food and necessities become, God is not shorthanded, and His ability to supply supersedes that of the enemy to cut off. We can rest assured that God is way ahead of our enemies and we are in good hands.

In the 2nd verse, we are encouraged to have a ‘good testimony.’ One day, we will stand along with these very persons mentioned here and give an account of our lives in Jesus, our faith, our obedience, and the way in which we brought glory to God. Will you and I obtain a ‘good testimony’? Remember, these elders they speak of are just men and women like us, flesh and blood who allowed the God of Heaven to rule their lives. There was nothing super special about them; they were flawed men and women like we are. Yet, they obtained a good testimony, and so too can you and I, as our God is the same today as He was back then.

One last thing: let me show you a few verses that many of us don’t like to read and consider, but if we are to tell the truth, it must be the whole truth.

Hebrews 11:35-38 “Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.”

It may be that some of us will be hurt, suffer, be tortured, imprisoned, and even die if the Lord tarries His return. It may seem like the Lord has forgotten us, abandoned us, and turned on us, but He has not. God’s people have been killed and tortured over the years and centuries since He left. We have been spared here in North America and the Western Hemisphere, but many Christians around the world still live in danger, and these dangers will increase for all of us as the end nears and Satan begins his last stand.

We know this is going to happen, and it may be that soon we will have to go through some of the things mentioned in these verses. Trust God; it is all we have. It is the only way through and the only salve to the wounds that may be inflicted by our enemies. Ask God to help us to see Him and His hand, ask the Lord to increase our faith, and we too can be like the folks in Hebrews 11.

Trust God, keep the faith.

God bless you,

Giants: The Genetics That Changed the World :: By Sean Gooding

Genesis 6:1-8

“Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. 3 And the Lord said, ‘My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.’ 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 So the Lord said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

There continues to be much said about aliens and contact with the ‘other’ worlds. The world is preparing to have a reasonable explanation in the event that the Rapture is real. They need a plausible explanation that the world will accept if and when hundreds of millions of people disappear. Once they have the remaining population now in fear, they can control the people and just about every aspect of their lives. Some of the information about the ‘giants’ and human interactions with them keeps being leaked, and all of these unexplainable situations come out.

We understand the Bible to be perfect and that what it declares to us is the truth. The Bible clearly tells us that giants, very large men, in particular, lived among the people of Earth. They engaged in wars, they were colonies of these men and their ancestors, and they lived in and among the people in the Promised Land and well into the reign of King David. Some of David’s soldiers engaged in battle with these men, beginning with Goliath; take a read in 2 Samuel 21: 15-22. Here, we see the warriors that fought with David fighting a series of giants and prevailing over them.

According to Genesis 6, these giants were a result of the sexual unions between fallen angels and human women. Some take the statement from Jesus found in Matthew 22:30 that ‘angels don’t marry’ to imply, some deduce, that they cannot engage in sexual union. But the verse does not say that. Paul the apostle was celibate by choice, 1 Corinthians 7: 6-7. Paul made the choice not to engage in sexual activities so as to be more focused on the work at hand. It was a personal choice, not one commanded to him by God. This does not mean he could not engage; he chose not to.

As far as we can tell, there are several classes of angels: cherubim, seraphim, warrior angels, messenger angels, and maybe others we have not yet been made aware of. However, somewhere along the line in the chronicles of human history, rebellious angels married and had children with human women; the offspring corrupted the human DNA. They were evil and became more so as they progressed to the point of God’s wrath in the flood to protect the DNA of His Son that had to be traced back to Adam so he could be our Redeemer.

Over the next two millennia, there would be discoveries that confirm the existence of giants all over the earth. There have been many discoveries over the many years since Jesus, especially in the last 200 years when archeology became a science, and there were deliberate actions taken to uncover the past. In these ‘digs,’ there have been skeletal remains and artifacts uncovered that lead us to understand that there were giants in many parts of the world, not just the Middle East. This is a reasonable assumption based on Genesis 11 and the scattering of the earth’s population; see Genesis 11:8.

God dispersed the people. We can deduce since giants existed after the flood that the ‘angel DNA’ lived on after the flood, most likely in the wives of Noah’s son. Thus, since all of the people on earth after the flood came through these women, the tainted DNA passed on, and we have giants even after the flood. In addition to the Bible, the book of Enoch tells us about the events that led to us having giants. That is not scripture, but it is mentioned in the Scriptures. Jude 14-15 appears to be a quote or at least alludes to a passage from the book of Enoch itself (see Enoch 1:9).

Behold, he comes with the myriads of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all, and to destroy all the wicked, and to convict all flesh for all the wicked deeds that they have done, and the proud and hard words that wicked sinners spoke against him” (Jude 14-15).

Then, take a look at Jude 14-15. It was also about these that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “See, the Lord is coming with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all, and to convict everyone of all the deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

There are a lot of crazy videos on YouTube, and you need to be discerning, but there are a lot of good things as well; look for a lesson by Chuck Messler on giants in the Bible. Take a look at a video from a year ago called ‘Archeological Evidence for Giants in the Bible.’ Another from about 7 months ago is called ‘Forbidden Archeology: Lost Giants of America.’ You can find lots of good research about the existence of giants, and the Bible tells us the origin of these giants. Look at 2 Samuel 23:20 for some even crazier insights:

“Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.”

There were two lion-like men who were killed by Benaiah. Not just giants, but it seems there were other genetic anomalies, and the word used in Hebrew ‘ariels’ implies genetic abnormalities; these also show up in a man with 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot, 2 Samuel 21:20. We are told in the New Testament that as it was in the days of Noah, it will be in the last days. Yes, there will be intense increases in the amount and the intensity of evil, but we cannot ignore the catalyst that brought on the level of evil that caused the flood.

The next judgments will be fire, earthquakes, and pestilences that will make people wish they could die, but God won’t let them. Keep your eyes open, read the scriptures, and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding. Jesus is coming back soon for us, but there may be a lot of things to happen before then, things that are not of God but supernatural; nonetheless, keep the faith. We need to be people of the Book more than any generation before us. Keep the faith!
