Since the first time sin entered the heart of man, sickness, disease, pain and death have been a part of every person’s life. AIDS is another part of the judgment of sin that Satan uses to destroy lives.
AIDS is in a different category because it had its start by immoral behavior. Sexual relations outside of marriage, homosexual activity and drug use are the causes of the majority of AIDS cases. There are some, however, who have contracted HIV through no fault of their own. Since that can be the case, it cannot be assumed that every AIDS patient is suffering under a judgment from God.
The best way to handle this and other issues of sin and disease is to recognize that God loves the sinner, not the sin. He still loves that person and longs for his or her salvation. We all must pray for the eyes of Christ when we face these types of situations with people who are hurting.
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:1-2).
