One passage in the Bible that seems to teach against getting tattoos can be found in Leviticus chapter 19, verse 28, which says: “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.”
Many say that this applies to today’s tattoos. Others contend that this was part of Old Testament, Levitical law and Christians today are not kept to those standards. But either way, the teaching against getting tattoos makes good sense.
It is one thing to possibly get a very small tattoo that is tasteful and discreet, but to cover the body with tattoos will only identify you as part of the godless world and not separate from it. Why place marks on your body that the Lord taught against? We are called to be set apart from the world and to live godly lives. Jesus would not be frequenting tattoo parlors if He were here on earth today.
