Many things that are an abomination to God: Lying, pride and wickedness by rulers are three things that are abominable to God. All sin is an abomination (going against God’s commands in the Scriptures).
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who deal faithfully are His delight” (Proverbs 12:22).
“Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; assuredly, he will not be unpunished” (Proverbs 16:5).
“It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts, for a throne is established on righteousness” (Proverbs 16:12).
Believers can be and are guilty of these sins more often than they should be. A very grievous abomination that a believer can commit is to stop listening to Scripture. That includes refraining from reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on Scripture on a daily basis. Every believer should be in the word every day as the Bereans were (Acts 17.11).
“He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, even his prayer is anabomination” (Proverbs 28:9).
We are commanded to study the Bible to present ourselves approved to God as a workman who is not ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2.15). Remember, man does not live by food alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8.3).
When a believer does not feed on Scripture as one does on food they slowly die spiritually. Their prayers become an abomination to God, and He does not answer them. A believer can quickly spiral into a backslidden condition.
