He will be captured and killed at the final battle, the battle of Armageddon when he is leading the charge against God Himself and the armies of heaven. He will be destroyed by the awesome power of Jesus Christ. Although Scripture implies that he is not without consciousness because he is cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone (Revelation 19:20).”For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming” (2 Thessalonians 2:7-8).
The prophet Daniel also spoke of the total defeat of Antichrist which points to Christ’s intervention:
“Through his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; and he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without human means” (Daniel 8:25).
